Code of Conduct

Conduct of Participants

We already know you won’t have a problem with this, but we must say it:

All participants must remain inside the building or designated areas during the dance. Follow the requests of the chaperones.  No fowl language.  Please do not bring any food or drink.  Do not bring alcohol of any kind.  Please do not smoke inside or outside the building.

Gentlemen:

How to Act

  • Gentlemen ask ladies to dance. (They will accept)
  • Listen carefully to dance instructions.
  • We ask that you do not dance with the same partner multiple times in a row.
  • Escort your partner off the dance floor when the dance is over.
  • Gentlemen are in high demand at the ball.  Plan to dance all of the dances.
  • What to wear – Casual is fine, some people will chose to dress up a bit. Do what you are comfortable with.
  • Please be aware of your personal hygiene!

Ladies:

How to Act

  • Wait for a young man to ask you to dance.  Make sure you are approachable.
  • Say “yes” to him.
  • Listen carefully to dance instructions.
  • We ask that you don’t dance with the same person multiple times in a row.

What to Wear

  • Casual is fine. Some people choose to dress up, but do what you are comfortable with.
  • We ask ladies to wear shorts under dresses shorter than knee length and dress length be at or below finger tips.
  • Please use modest judgement when choosing your attire.
  • Above all, make sure you feel comfortable moving around and spinning.
  • Wear comfortable shoes as you will be on your feet most of the night.

Suggestions:

  • Have your parents watch you spin, bend, and raise your arms in your dress.
  • Avoid a straight skirt so that movement won’t be an issue.
  • Close-toed shoes are encouraged for safety.  You don’t want to go home early because of an accidental overstep. We are all learning.

Liz started her career as a dance instructor for Arthur Murray Studios in El Paso, Texas in 1981. She has worked in Kansas City for TC Dance Club, and in Albuquerque for East Street Dance Studio, where she was to meet her future husband, Leigh Manning.

She chose to continue teaching part time as an independent for various venues and clubs by teaching groups classes and private students.

Her Qualifications include beginning to advanced levels in social dancing, Ballroom, Country Western, swing and Latin Dances; 18 in total!

She and Leigh, a retured Air Traffic Controll and a gold medalist in Alaskan Sled Dog Racing, spend their days, “Dancing With Horses” and trail riding. On weekends they ride by day and enjoy social dancing at night with friends.
